CAT5e Cable – Cut Length
Product Details
Cut length by the foot of outdoor rated CAT5e cable in black – perfect for your security camera system. 4 pairs of internal wires (24AWG) used either for video or power. Each pair is handily color coded.
The video connection requires 1 pair of wires and our video baluns. The power connection requires the remaining 3 pairs of wire and our DC plugs and sockets.
This cable can be used in 2 different ways. You can either run just video along this cable (and supply power to the camera locally) in which case you can run up to 4 video feeds along a single length of cable. The alternative is to run both the video and the power along the same cable.
Also available in 1,000ft roll.
Pure Copper
For use in security camera systems, it is vital that pure copper CAT5e cable is used. The cheaper cable CCA (copper clad aluminum) is an inferior product that you need to avoid. The electrical characteristics of the cable are different and you’ll find the CCA either doesn’t work or doesn’t give you a great quality image. Unless told otherwise, assume other people are selling CCA and avoid.
All the CAT5e cable that we sell here at Orange Security is pure copper. It is also solid core CAT5e cable.
Long Transmission Distances
When used with our video baluns the images from the camera can be transmitted up to 500ft.
When used for video and power, the maximum cable length should be limited to 200ft.
If your requirements go beyond these lengths, please contact us.
Outdoor Grade
Most CAT5e cable is sold with a jacket that is impervious to rain, however it isn’t UV resistant. Not here at Orange Security! Coming from The Sunshine State, we’re well aware just how harsh the sun can be – the cable we sell has a UV resistant jacket (CMX rated) to ensure that the jacket doesn’t break down after being installed for a long period of time. Our cable also has a waterproof tape. These features combined allows the product to be rated as both an outdoor grade cable and also a direct burial grade cable.
Plenum cable available by special order. Please get in touch if required.
CAT5/CAT5e/CAT6
When using cabling for security camera purposes, there is no difference between CAT5e and CAT6 cabling. CAT5 cable is less tightly wound which means it’s more likely to experience interference. We stock CAT5e due to availability, the cost effectiveness and it’s resistance to interference.
