Restaurant Security Camera System
A restaurant undergoing a refurbishment wanted also to replace an aging security camera system of 8 cameras. Most didn’t function correctly and were installed many years ago. The main complaint was image quality, but also accessing the security camera system remotely over the internet. The management also weren’t sure how to review and backup footage. The restaurant is pretty large. The cable runs within the restaurant are difficult. This is due to the construction of the building and the extensions that have been built over time. Concerns include theft (either by staff or customers), abusive customers, attempted forced entry to external plant room and other emergency exits.
Due to the existing cameras using a cabling system bespoke to a company that went out of business long ago, none of the cable runs could be reused. Due to the complicated nature of the cable runs and the number of cameras required, it was agreed that the system would be split into 2 sections. This means there would be 2 recorders each handling one zone of the restaurant. Covert cameras were discussed as a possibility for the register locations however the owner decided they would rather have overt surveillance.
|Cameras 1 & 2||Bullet Camera with 2.8-12mm Lens||To cover the area outside the entrance to the restaurant. Owner preferred the design of the bullet cameras for external use.|
|Camera 3||Open Dome Turret Camera with 2.8-12mm Lens||To be positioned directly in front of the main entrance doors to the restaurant. This will identify the majority of restaurant goers as they first set foot into the restaurant. In the event of an incident, these images will likely be the ones used to identify the person. Camera body available in either white or black to owner’s preference.|
|Cameras 4, 9, 12 & 13||Open Dome Turret Camera with 2.8-12mm Lens||Covert cameras were discussed for these positions over the registers however the owner decided overt surveillance would serve their purposes better. The varifocal lens allows the cameras to be zoomed right in on the registers – this will allow the manager to catch some of the more common theft methods. Camera body available in either white or black to owner’s preference.|
|Camera 5, 10, 11, 14 & 15||Open Dome Turret Camera with 2.8-12mm Lens||These cameras are planned to be concentrated in on the secondary entrances to the restaurant. The main concern for these areas is after hours issues. Due to the construction of the building, it’s impossible to say in advance exactly where the camera will be positioned on the ceiling. This varifocal lens allows the camera to be installed where it needs to be and then adjusted quickly and easily using the varifocal lens. Camera body available in either white or black to owner’s preference.|
|Camera 6||Open Dome Turret Camera with 3.6mm Lens||Restaurants in the area have had issues with drugs in the toilets area. This camera is to serve as a deterrent for people who may consider such activity in this restaurant. Camera body available in either white or black to owner’s preference.|
|Cameras 7 & 8||Open Dome Turret Camera with 3.6mm Lens||The requirement for these cameras was to just “keep an eye on the bar” as opposed to identifying people (they will be identified on other cameras throughout the restaurant). The fixed lens is a budget way to do this and the 3.6mm lens is relatively wide angle allowing this to be done. Camera body available in either white or black to owner’s preference.|
|Cameras 16, 17, 18 & 21||Bullet Camera with 2.8-12mm Lens||Bullet cameras have a versatile mounting bracket which is perfect for these locations where the camera is required to look along the wall. The 2.8-12mm lens ensures the images captured are filled with the subject.|
|Camera 19||Open Dome Turret Camera with 3.6mm Lens||To be located within the plant room. This area is only accessible from the outside so the owner wanted the manager to be able to see what was happening in the room if service was being carried out or similar. Camera body available in either white or black to owner’s preference.|
|Camera 20||Bullet Camera with 8mm Lens||This rarely used emergency exit has a narrow pathway leading to it. This allows us to still get a great image with the 8mm fixed lens camera. The owner prefers the bullet camera style for external use, however both the bullet camera and open dome camera would function in exactly the same manor in this situation.|
Extensions of the Surveillance System
With the system split in two, 2 of 16 Camera HD-TVI recorders to be fitted. This results in 9 cameras on one system and 12 on the other. The additional camera inputs could be used for other internal camera locations as required, especially if a new register location was added. There are currently no cameras covering the parking lot – this could be added in the future for the benefit of their customers.
