Large Home – 7,000 sqft

Large Home Security Camera System

Situation

This single family home is approximately 7,000 sqft and is a vacation home for the owner’s family. The owner uses the home infrequently. He is after the security benefits that a surveillance system provides but is also interested in the other benefits a security camera system can provide. He wants the coverage of the rear of the property limited to retain his and his guests’ privacy. The property is located towards the end of a no-through road. Either side of the property along the boundary lines have dense hedging that is all but impossible to pass through. The unique challenge this property presents is the water access to the rear – it is conceivable someone could approach by boat.

Proposed System

Camera Recommendation Description
Camera 1 Bullet Camera with 5-50mm Lens To look down the North side of the property towards the front. This will be a really useful as it’s the camera that will catch people who approach the property direct from the sidewalk. The rear entry door to the garage which is along this side of the property would also be covered. The camera body color fits with the outside color of the property.
Camera 2 Open Dome Turret Camera with 2.8-12mm Lens To look towards the rear of the property and the dock. This is a hard view to cover but will catch people who come around the side of the property. The mounting point for this camera is quite low so the open dome camera was chosen over the bullet style for it’s vandal resistance properties.
Camera 3 Bullet Camera with 6-22mm Lens To look down the South side of the property. This will capture anyone attempting to come around the South side of the property, especially from the sidewalk. The camera body color fits with the outside color of the property. The lens option allows the camera to be mounted a little higher than normal and still achieve a good angle of view to identify anyone who approaches in that direction.
Camera 4 Bullet Camera with 6-22mm Lens To look towards the rear of the property and other end of the dock. This will capture anyone coming around the South side of the property. The camera body color fits with the outside color of the property. The lens option allows the camera to be mounted a little higher than normal and still achieve a good angle of view to identify anyone who approaches in that direction. The exact location of the camera on the side of the property is variable – the lens gives great flexibility in that regard.
Camera 5 Bullet Camera with 5-50mm Lens The owner whilst between boats, expressed concern for his pair of waverunners on the lift both from a security perspective, but also maintenance is carried out on the dock and he likes to keep an eye on maintenance when not on site. The camera location was selected to be as discrete as possible for the owner and his guests. The owner’s plan was to add a boat in the near future and this camera could very quickly be repositioned to protect the larger investment .
Camera 6 Open Dome Turret Camera with 3.6mm Lens To cover the front door and internal porch area. This camera will identify anyone who approaches the main entrance door of the property. The small size of the camera works really well and is discrete when fitted in the covered entrance porch.
Camera 7 Bullet Camera with 5-50mm Lens Even though the front of the property is relatively open, most people will still approach up the drive. This camera is selected to identify people as they come onto the drive. This will be the most used camera when identifying people. The long lens on the camera allows it to be positioned to the side of that elevation but still allowing a great image to be captured. The camera body color fits with the outside color of the property.
Camera 8 Open Dome Turret Camera with 2.8-12mm Lens This camera is to provide a general overview of the front drive of the property. Whilst Camera 7 above will identify anyone approaching up the drive, this camera will allow you to see exactly what they do. The other situation this camera could be very useful is if a vehicle drives onto the drive and bumps into another vehicle there, this camera would see that happening.
Camera 9 Open Dome Turret Camera with 2.8-12mm Lens There are 2 doors to either side of the front door. This camera will cover one set of doors which would be an entrance point. The camera body comes in either black or white (owner’s choice) and is to be mounted just above the top of the door to give the best chance possible of identifying anyone attempting to gain access via that route.
Camera 10 Open Dome Turret Camera with 2.8-12mm Lens There are 2 doors to either side of the front door. This camera will cover one set of doors which would be an entrance point. The camera body comes in either black or white (owner’s choice) and is to be mounted just above the top of the door to give the best chance possible of identifying anyone attempting to gain access via that route.
Camera 11 Bullet Camera with 2.8-12mm Lens There are a couple of windows at the end of the garage that could allow an intruder time to gain entry to the property whilst staying undetected. This camera is to cover this area. The secondary use for this camera would be to identify a person if they came up to the property from the sidewalk and then came across the front. The owner could elect to go for the open dome camera with the same 2.8-12mm lens however the bullet camera will provide a better angle of view to look along the end of that wall.
Camera 12 Bullet Camera with 2.8-12mm Lens There are a couple of windows at the end of the wall in this area that could allow an intruder time to gain entry to the property whilst staying undetected. This camera is to cover this area. The secondary use for this camera would be to identify a person if they came up from the sidewalk and then came across the front of the property. The owner could elect to go for the open dome camera with the same 2.8-12mm lens however the bullet camera will provide a better angle of view to look along the end of that wall.

Additional Camera

A 13th camera was proposed. This is it’s location and here’s why.

Camera Recommendation Description
Camera 13 Bullet Camera with 5-50mm Lens To look up the road. This would be a very useful camera for the neighborhood community. It would offer some coverage for up to 8 properties for people walking on the road/sidewalk and any vehicles that may come along. It was recommended that the owner discuss this option with his neighbors. The color of this camera body would blend in well to the exterior color of the property.

Extensions of the Surveillance System

Due to 13 cameras being discussed, the correct recorder would be the 16 Camera HD-TVI recorder. This would give a surplus of 3 camera inputs which could be filled at a later date if the owner required. The extensions could be either another camera covering the toys on the dock at the rear of the home or covering the rear of the property if the owner had a change of heart.
