What is a Sub Stream?
The recorders that we sell here at Orange Security all record at a high definition resolution – 1080p. Whilst giving great quality footage, if you are trying to remotely access your system over the internet on a connection that isn’t ideal then viewing the full quality stream isn’t possible. Perhaps you are trying to look at the system on your cell phone in an area without a great connection or on a slow broadband connection. This is due to the bandwidth available between your recorder and your cell phone.
A sub stream is a lower quality resolution version of the same images. Don’t worry – this doesn’t affect the footage recorded onto your hard drive. It is only for display between your recorder and your cell phone.
As covered in the dedicated article, the connection from your cell phone to your recorder is designed to offer you a quick view to ensure everything is ok. You don’t need the highest quality resolution to check if your RV is still in the garage or your car is still where you left it!
The other benefit is that the sub stream uses up less data transfer on your cell phone so if you do have a limit, it should take much longer to hit it!
The recorders that we sell here at Orange Security allow you to select which resolution you wish to use for the sub stream giving you more control over how your system operates.
