Like a hybrid car having the option of being powered by different sources, a hybrid security camera recorder has the option to record footage from different camera technologies. This is very helpful when upgrading a system or integrating existing products. The other time this becomes very useful is if you have a camera view that does not need to be recorded in full 1080p HD. You can use a camera set to a lower resolution on CVBS and take up less space on the hard drive.
The High Definition camera technology that we recommend using here at Orange Security is HD-TVI, however the recorders that we stock will actually accept video feeds from multiple camera technologies and their differing resolutions including:
- HD-TVI (1080p)
- HD-AHD (1080p)
- IP (1080p)
- CVBS (D1/960H)
This also means that if you’re looking to upgrade an old security camera system to high definition you could do so by replacing only the recorder. To find out more, please see our Upgrading to HD CCTV page.
The added functionality of being able to accept IP camera feeds gives you the option of positioning cameras in locations which are physically difficult to run cables to but can have a network connection.
