Camera Connections
Over the years many different manufacturers have tried to tie customers into their product lines and their product lines only to ensure you either have to go back to them in the future or you have to start from scratch with your entire system.
What often happens is the manufacturer changes the connection, stops the product line or even ceases trading. In these situations, the customer is left with little choice other than to suffer the expense of starting from scratch. Trust us when we say that you really don’t want to be left re running cables just because a manufacturer changed their product line!
Everything that we supply here at Orange Security uses industry standard connections and cabling for both video and power. This allows easy upgrade and replacement in the future.
The connections from cameras will generally look something like this:
Video
BNC connections (either over RG59 cable or with video baluns and CAT5 cable). If your camera has 2 BNC connections then one is for HD video output and the other for standard definition analog output. The SD analog output will be indicated by a small label saying ‘Analog output’. When connected to your security camera system it is recommended you use the HD video connection for best results.
Power
12V DC supplied through a 5.5 x 2.1mm socket.
OSD – On Screen Display
Most cameras we supply have an on screen display where certain settings changes can be made on the camera. These are done with a small joystick as shown below. We recommend leaving the cameras at their default settings unless recommended otherwise by Orange Security.
Exceptions
Video: Our vandal dome camera only has 1 video output on the main output which is for the HD feed. There is a second output that requires the use of a video take-off cable (included). This connects with the dome of the camera off and allows the use of a setup monitor to ensure both the direction and angle of view is as required.
Power: Our PTZ Camera has a slightly different connection for power. It looks similar but stops the wrong power being supplied. This camera should only be used with the power supply included.
Color: The color of the connections may vary slightly from camera to camera.
